The Ballater Royal Horticultural Society is one of the oldest in Britain. Indeed in 2009 it celebrates the 150th anniversary of the first Ballater Flower Show held in 1859. To mark the occasion the Society will, in addition to its annual show, stage a special horticultural / floral exhibition in Glenmuick Church, Ballater from Wednesday 5th to Saturday 8th August. The theme of the exhibition is simply 'Celebrating 150 years'.
The Annual Show will take place about one week later on 15th and 16th August in the Victoria and Albert Halls. This year the show will be part of the town's popular Victoria Week festival (8th - 16th August. The show is linked to Homecoming 2009.
Participants at the show include not only local residents but also some of the great estates of Royal Deeside and the eastern Cairngorms National Park such as Balmoral and Birkhall.
Ballater Royal Horticultural Society holds a number of meetings through the year with talks and quizzes. It also has a floral arts section which holds its own series of talks, demonstrations and workshops. Contact Ballater Royal Horticultural Society
